Kasbah d'Agadir (Agadir Oufella)
This is the most beautiful site of
Agadir, the citadel overlooking the ocean and the city from its 236 meters, it
was built by Mohammed Ech-Cheikh (Founder Saadian Dynasty) in 1540 to conduct
the siege of the city and to protect the Portuguese attacks. The place was
reinforced two centuries later in 1752 by Moulay Abdallah, who installed a
garrison of two thousand men. After the earthquake, the only remaining parts of
the rampart wall, partially mended, and the front door on which an inscription
in Dutch "Fear God, and respect the king" recalls the Netherlands
installed a countertop in 1746 under the Saadian Sultan sovereignty. This site
is a great place to watch the sunset over the bay.
Kasbah or Kasbah of Agadir (Agadir
Called Oufella in tachelhit, that is to say Agadir d'en Haut) is the most
majestic of the town site. It is a fortress overlooking the town and the beach
and towering to a height of 236 meters. It overlooks the ocean at more than 216
m in the hills of Oufella, offering a magnificent view of the city, the bay and
the hinterland. Oufella Agadir was built in 1540 by Mohammed Ech-Cheikh,
Moroccan king belonging to the Saadian dynasty. Having conquered the city, the
latter built these walls in order to protect themselves from possible invasion
including Portuguese.
The site was rebuilt in 1752 to
increase the security of Agadir. After the earthquake of 1960, the
fortifications were rebuilt on their old brands and only the front door was
kept to the authentic.
During their walk, visitors will not
forget that this fortress enclosed the oldest district of Agadir, at the time
made up of narrow streets and residents upbeat. The walls and the front door
were restored while the remains of this ancient fortress was transformed into a
necropolis. It is
reached by a road with a magnificent panorama.
The place is ideal for admiring the
city from all angles and the sunsets!

Agadir "Timitar" Festival
After the success of the first
experience that even the organizers were not expecting, the Agadir
"Timitar" Festival (signs in Tamazight) is back with a second
edition, which will take place between 2 and 9 July and promises several new
features.
If Timitar 2004 was organized as an
essay, editing the current year is proposed as the true beginning of this
annual regional festival, it will perpetuate and intends to make a tradition,
according to the Chairman of the Souss-Massa-Draa, Aziz Akhennouch. In order to
professionalize the organization of this festival, we proceeded with the
creation of an association dedicated to him, which contains several figures in
the city, representing the City Council, the Provincial Council, trade
chambers, hoteliers and civil society. Last year, the organization was provided
by the Regional Council.
This transition has allowed the
initiators of this event to provide a richer program and revise upward their
objectives, building on 600,000 visitors, according to the number of 500,000
recorded last year. An objective quite within reach, according to the president
of the Association Timitar Abdullah Rhallam, given the extension of the
duration of the festival to eight days and programming of not less than 46
concerts, led by nearly 400 artists from worldwide. Especially the public has
free access to all shows, given in three different locations, with nearly
80,000 seats, add the festival director Fatim-Zahra Ammor.
Timitar 2005, which proposed
"Amazigh Festival in the heart of the world", a varied target
audience of local, national, RME and tourists. To animate, it has appealed to
artists both Moroccans resident or located elsewhere, and regional and international.
This is, among other things, Rwaiss, Moroccan groups like Nass El Oudaden and
Ghiwan Ouhammou Moha, The Medicine Show Jazz, Alpha Blondy, Amazigh Kateb,
Faudel, Najat Atabou Rkya Demssirya ...
Other new features in this release,
including, according to festival director, Brahim El Mazned, partnerships with
other international festivals, both in Spain, Canada, United Arab Emirates,
Africa.
This will create a network to
communicate around the Timitar. In the case of the Spanish festival, the
partnership has resulted in a common artistic project which will be played on
both occasions, as well as other festivals worldwide. Moreover, during the
presentation of this event for journalists, have been criticized for the lack
of organizers Tifinagh communication about the event, as well as non tributes
programming and visual arts.
